Medicare Annual Election Period & Part D Disclosure Notices


Medicare's Annual Election Period (AEP) begins on October 15, 2014 and ends on December 7, 2014. Employers who provide prescription drug coverage to Medicare Part D-eligible individuals must distribute to these individuals annual notices indicating whether their employer-sponsored prescription drug benefit is creditable or non-creditable* coverage.

Notices must be sent by October 15, 2014.

Creditable Coverage* Model Notice

This model notice includes the wording required by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) if the employer-sponsored prescription drug coverage is creditable. The form should be customized (as indicated) before distribution by the employer to Medicare Part D- eligible individuals.

This model notice includes the wording required by CMS if the employer-sponsored prescription drug coverage is non-creditable. The form should be customized (as indicated) before distribution by the employer to Medicare Part D-eligible individuals.

CMS Online Reporting Requirement

Employers who provide prescription drug coverage to Medicare Part D-eligible individuals also are required to submit an online disclosure to CMS annually (no later than 60 days from the beginning of a plan year, within 30 days after the termination of a prescription drug plan, or within 30 days after any change in creditable coverage status).
